Simone Rocha brought Bridal Crocs to LFW

For SS24, Simone Rocha combined her classic romantic vision with fabrics to combat all weather. Rosettes, bows, and intricate bead work peppered one of the most anticipated collections of London Fashion Week, combining practical(ish) outdoor specific garments with delicate embellishments leaves us with the perfect fusion of Gorp and Balletcore.

Located at the English National Ballet HQ, the SS24 collection was aptly named ‘The Dress Rehersal’. Intended to provide more of an intimate connection between the audience and designer, the Canningtown location is less ornate than Rocha’s previous stomping grounds, which have included the grandiose Central Hall Westminster and the neo-Baroque Old Bailey. The dark interior of the venue allowed models clad in flamboyant crocs and floor-skimming ribbons to take centre stage.

Drawing inspiration from Wedding rituals, Simone Rocha used traditional motifs throughout whilst combining our modern obsession with outdoors-wear. Tiered wedding cake dresses complete with clutch bags, roses embedded in tule and a plethora of ribbon iterations were combined with water resistant fabrics, parkas and tracksuits.

The showstopper of Rocha’s dress rehearsal was of course her collaboration with Crocs. Everyone’s favourite rubber clogs were reimagined in iterations we’re familiar with, as well as some new designs. Perforated nude sports-pumps were emboldened by bow lacing, pearls, and faux gem stones – once again reminding us that this season is all about reinvention, ‘ugly shoes’ are to be embraced. Other details included white block heels fit for any bride who loves both style and comfort as well as jumbo jibbits, no pearl is too big or too small in Rocha’s world.

The matrimony of practicality and style in this collection has yet again earned Simone Rocha ample praise, her London Fashion Week showcases are increasingly anticipated.
