Wellness tips for over the winter period
From eating well to staying connected, here are some wellness tips to keep you refreshed over the winter period.
Stay hydrated
Its important to keep hydrated not only in the winter months but in general. Keeping hydrated helps your vital organs conduct the jobs they need to do and improves your skin quality making breakouts appear less. Not only is it important for your physical health it’s important for your mental health as well reducing tiredness and procrastination.
Keep active
Keeping active during winter helps your body and mind keep healthy. Instead of being a couch potato over the holidays try to go on a walk or hit the gym to keep some normality to your life so you’re ready to get back into it after the holidays pass.
Stay connected
Talking to people over the holidays helps maintain normality. It also helps keep your mind healthy. You don’t need to be socialising 24/7 but maintaining healthy connections really does help you feel less lonely over the winter months. Try facetiming people you miss from uni etc or making plans with friends you haven’t seen in a while.
Limit your alcohol intake
With multiple events that involve drinking over winter like New Years eve, it’s easy to fall into a pattern of binge drinking to fill the boredom of the holidays. However repetitive drinking can cause lowered emotions which will impact your mental and physical wellbeing. Try limiting your alcohol intake by only having one or two drinks when you go out.
Eat well
It’s hard to keep a balanced diet over winter especially with all the festive foods that are on offer. But it’s important to balance what you eat and that doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in a selection box, it just means remembering to have your five a day as well as having that sweet treat. Try to meal plan over winter so you can incorporate the protein and vegetables you need in your diet and an added bonus to meal planning is saving money which is needed after all that spending for the holidays.
